Cyber security is critical for any business - small or large. We have seen recently the reports highlighted by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) that large organisations involved in the critical national infrastructure, such as BT, are placing greater importance on security.
However, as the NCSC is aware all size of companies are at risk. This is why they are developing more and more tools to help smaller businesses avoid falling foul of devastating cyber attacks.
The common misconception is that cybercriminals only go after the big fish and don't bother with small companies. What cybercriminals actually do is go after the easiest targets which can be more lucrative to do a smaller, less riskier attack. As most smaller companies do not have the resources or budgets like BT, they are vulnerable to being exploited. However, getting the fundamentals right doesn't need to be costly and with the supporting resources provided by NCSC, there are real opportunities for any size of business to put in place a baseline of security and protect their livelihoods.
