A career in cyber-security is not what many non-IT people have traditionally considered in the past.

💡 However, according to a report from https://lnkd.in/d_ZmnxAe the gap for cybersecurity professionals is widening (it has grown by 13% in 2022) with around 4 million roles that need filing worldwide!

💡 Furthermore, 41% of companies are trying to recruit non-technical people into cyber-security from other roles within the company.

The workforce study of nearly 15,000 international decision-makers also found:

🤔 47% of cybersecurity professionals have dealt with cutbacks to their teams through layoffs, budget cuts, and hiring or promotion freezes.

🤔 67% of respondents reported that their organisation has a shortage of cybersecurity staff needed to prevent and troubleshoot security issues. 92% report having skills gaps in their organization.

🤔 58% of cybersecurity professionals said that the negative impact of worker shortages can be mitigated by filling key skills gaps. Those organisations that continue their training, education, and certification reimbursement programs are far better prepared to weather times of economic uncertainty.

🤔 75% of cybersecurity professionals view the current threat landscape as the most challenging it has been in the past five years. Only 52% believe that their organisation has the tools and people needed to respond to cyber incidents over the next few years.

🤔 Positively, 70% of cybersecurity professionals say they are satisfied with their jobs today.

🤔 New workers are less likely to have worked in IT before entering a cybersecurity role and more are embarking on this later in their careers, with a considerable shift in gender and ethnic breakdowns of the new workforce.

🤔 Cloud computing skills are sought after the most and are the biggest skill gap. AI skills are also increasingly in demand.

🤔 Experience over formal education is what recruiters value the most in potential candidates.

New entrants into the cybersecurity sector are bringing valuable transferable skills into the workplace to fill skills gaps. One such new entrant commented that she works alongside people who studied history, geography, and archaeology and says her own humanities background helps with her work today, processing information and creating blogs.
